  Household water quality circulars are available to help deal with problems identified by water test reports. These circulars are brief, written in a non-technical fashion, and designed for county-delivery along with water test results or on their own to answer common questions.

• Forage Nitrate Test Kit Instructions
  Are you ready to deal with high nitrate forage? The latest report in Georgia FACES by D. E. Stooksbury states that "Moderate agricultural drought now covers most of the state as mild agricultural drought spreads into all of north Georgia. Only southeast Georgia now has near-normal soil moisture conditions for mid-to-late June." In a fact-sheet titled Drought-Stricken Forages Often Present Nitrate Toxicity Problems by B. R. Moss, D. Ball, and others, drought causes higher than usual nitrate levels to accumulate in forages. Drought worsens this problem by simultaneously reducing the availability of forages overall, limiting the producers ability to dilute high-nitrate forages in the animal's diet. So, Georgians need to be ready to test forages for high nitrate levels before cutting or feeding. There are two ways to go about testing. One way is to send samples to a laboratory, which usually takes a about four to five days (2-3 day shipping + 1 day sample processing + 1 day for analysis and reporting) to get results. Another way, if you can't wait for laboratory results is to do on-site testing with a field-kit.
