Subject: Country added to Database

I've added a Country field to the database (to the right of Category). Use that for any international samples (Univ. of Puerto Rico, Hong Kong Jockey Club, etc.).

I think I've caught all the international samples run since Jan 2007, but please check the database if you can think of any offhand. We don't need to worry about pre-2007 samples at this time.

If there are any international samples that don't end up in the database, let me know. We'll need some way of tracking those as well.

The USDA inspector needs this info at the drop of a hat, so this will give us that capability.

Please share with anyone doing data entry in your labs. Thanks!

I did some data cleanup and found a few more, including some soil and greenhouse from Puerto Rico. There are 227 total, excluding the PR waters:

Type

Samples

Name

Plant

110

Hong Kong Jockey Club

Soil

109

Hong Kong Jockey Club

Greenhouse

4

Abner Rodriguez, Puerto Rico

Soil

4

Magaly E. Cintron, Puerto Rico

Here are the tables, lab numbers, and completion dates, in case this helps determine dates received/disposed:

Data is at: http://aesl.ces.uga.edu/data/Out_of_state_or_Unknown.xls

All, but one, highlighted samples look good to report. We're not permitted to receive water samples, so we may exclude Puerto Rico submission.

Missy needs to enter these sample names in the soil permit activity report, and Dr. Kissel (and/or me) will do the proofing before sending it out. Information on date soils received and date soils disposed are also needed.

Attached are the calendar year 2007 samples that weren't entered as Georgia. I put the obvious international ones at top: 241 samples, mainly Hong Kong Jockey Club. You may want to glance through the list for any I may have missed.

I searched all the tables in the database:

PHW/FEW may have run some international samples that aren't in the database.

I'll add a country column to the database after hours, hopefully today. I'll also instruct June, Laura, and Natalie to use that column for international samples.

FYI.

Dave Grant of USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine stopped by and asked for the total number of soil samples we have received from abroad for calendar year 2007. I told him that we're going to send him the information once we pull it out from the database. He suggested that there should be a way for him to see the data right away anytime he visits the lab. Rick is now summarizing the numbers for Dave. Rick will also add a "country" column in the database so that whenever an inspector comes, we're ready for the information.
