Description Syntax
  • Use R for research.
  • If a test isn't in the Fee Schedule, put it in parentheses.
  • For S20, S24, S42 tests, include the element symbol(s).
When multiple parameters are requested for a test, list each test and its parameters separately.
    (See examples #9 and #10.)
  • Sort the tests. (See example #9.)

Examples
  1. County Routine: Leave blank

  3. County Routine plus Organic Matter: S1 S6
  4. County Routine + Heavy Metals: S2
[S2 includes S1, so don't list them separately.]
  5. Research CaST: R S1C
  6. Research Sodium Nitrate: R (NaNO3)
  7. County Greenhouse: S11
  8. Research Greenhouse pH only: R S12

Non-Mehlich Soils

There are five methods under which we run soils:

  • S1 test: Mehlich 1
  • NH4OAC: Ammonium acetate
  • NaHCO3: Sodium bicarbonate
  • NaNO3: Sodium nitrate
  • SrNO3: Strontium nitrate

Example: R (NH4OAC)

The non-Mehlich methods are gaining popularity based on Dr. Sumner's research, but they're not in the Fee Schedule.

When logging in non-Mehlich soils, put the tests in parentheses, and use the symbols above. They'll generally be written like that on the paperwork, but NH4OAC may sometimes be written like "Amm Acet."
